What I Heard on the Radio
Guy calls up morning radio to have a whinge.
Guy was driving, girlfriend was in the passenger seat.
Approaching a traffic light, the girl tells him to speed up and make it past the lights.
Guy listens, and tries to make the light.
Light changes, they don't make it, red light fine.
Who should pay the fine, the guy for jumping the light or the girl for encouraging him?
He thinks the girl should pay because if she hadn't egged him on, he wouldn't have jumped the red light.
My answer:
You should pay, you fucking retard! No matter what people say, the ultimate decision is still yours. You chose to listen to the stupid woman next to you, it was your foot on the accelerator, how can it NOT be your own fault?
You might as well say "It's not my fault for raping her! She was acting promiscuous."
(This is why I avoid listening to the radio on the way to work.)

oh, i don't think it's as clear cut as you make out, Hui-Ai... addy's right, it's halves at best. You'd have to ask what his natural reaction would be. From a guy's perspective, it's hard not to listen to a girl (i presume girlfriend) unless you're being particularly hard-headed about it.
(yes, i know, silly male egos etc, but it's a grey area from the fairness angle. From legal angle, it's obvious :D)
On Karan's point, there have been experiments conducted about the power of authority over people (see: Milgram experiment). It isn't as simple as saying, "You have free will. All the time."
But. Running a red is just stupid. There are very little unknowns when it comes to traffic lights. Become a driver and you develop an instinct for when it is safe to rush towards a yellow.
You committed a traffic offence? Pay the fine. You don't like your girlfriend? Get her out of your life. Do not go confusing the two issues and projecting on to radio talk shows.
now that i work at vicroads there are all sorts of things that come to my attention. things that are not for normal civilians like you to know. luckily you have me as a friend and i will regale you with tales of new laws.
if you dont have your actul license on you when you are pulled over, like the actul plastic card you will be slugged with a fine of 5 penalty points.
for those of you who don't know what one penalty point is worth its $107. that means if you get pulled over and you have left your wallet at home you will get a $535 fine...this is of course only for under 26's
oh btw if your in a car with someone and you tell them to speed or run a light you should offer to pay the whole lot and at least should go halves. while i realise that it is ultimately his decision the person asked him to break the law and he did it out of friendship. also i think that its a bit of a leap to compare that to rape...you have some serious issues that need working out lol

That's like being stopped for rape and not having your rape card on you and then... you get raped 5 times. Or something.
