Solution 1:
Use the same password for all log-ins. If anyone figures out what that password is, I'm screwed.
Solution 2:
Keep a list of all usernames and passwords in an excel spreadsheet....and protect it with a username and password.

If you just use a single computer, there is a Firefox plugin that generates passwords and automatically enters them into websites for you.
All these generated passwords are controlled with one master password that you enter. That way, you have a different password for every site but you only need to remember the master one.
I don't think it works when you use more than one computer though. You're pretty much screwed if you use someone elses computer and you want to login.
hah! you try being in IT! So many applications and systems and servers and arrrrgh each one has a different timeout!
Jack: that idea works when it's just sites, but when you have apps, or sites which don't work in Firefox (evil corporate lazy programming) then you're also stuffed.

I have the same problem, except that it's multiplied several times because I work on client site :( It's awesome when you have to log on to their network, then their proxy, then their websites / applications, then your companies websites / applications. Also, the new HP laptops have this awesome fingerprint scanner which works 80% of the time. What sucks is when it stops working, and you can't remember the password you can use instead.
Solution 1 is the best. But there's still one major problem with it :(
They force you to change 1 particular password every 60 days, and another particular password every 37.
1. You need a password "convention" instead of a single password, so you can easily switch to a new password. What's awesome is you will need at least 5 - 7 passwords in all likelihood due to more awesome security policies!
2. You have to change all your passwords at the same time, otherwise you forget which one is which and you get locked out of stuff all the time. So:
I think we all have this same problem. For web passwords, I use Firefox to remember them (but not generate, that's an awesome idea, will grab), Google Browser Sync to handle multiple computers, and Firefox Portable for all my travelling needs.
As for Lachlan's password syncing issues... my lan login expires tomorrow so I get to start on that then :-(
Work passwords are generally ok. Our's is kinda annoying cos it has to be at least 7 characters long, can't repeat any of the past 24 passwords used and has to be at least 1 day old. -_-" They're testing my creativity skills! But at least Windows log-on is synced with lotus notes.
My problem is stuff like photobucket, forums, stoptazmo, facebook, EPA, Ticketmaster, etc. I used to have Firefox remember most of them...but then my computer died. :(
Worst password system ever? American express website. Password needs to be "between 6 and 8 characters in length" (erm...) and must contain at least 2 numbers, 1 uppercase character, but no special characters.
Know what was awesome? My lan login expired and it said: "Your lan login expires today, do you want to change it, yes/no?" Didn't know why it was giving me the option, when it was expiring that day, but clicked no anyways. Log in fine. Then half my services don't work. Grrr....
Anyhows, computer dying is why you use Google Browser Sync! You can encrypt your passwords, store them on Google, and then you just have to remember you encryption password :-D Which is a problem by the way... because you only use it when you set up browser sync on a new comp... luckily you can reveal it on other comps you already have set up, but if you have no computers set up... you'd better remember it, or have it written down. Otherwise, solid offering!!
